I Have Failed More Than 1,000 Times and That's Why I Love beBee

771bd35a.jpg

People keep asking me, "Why do you love beBee so much?" Just last week one person I was talking to online was like, "I don't get it. beBee is just a job. Why are so passionate about it?" This person is like many people I talk to, employed in the corporate world and looking forward to the exact minute they can get off work so they can not think about it until the exact moment they have to be back there in the morning.

Look, I've been there. I've been unhappy in jobs in the corporate world and endured verbally abusive bosses in the past.

I finally found a place I love in my career. The journey has taken me many years. But it wasn't until I was on Chris Spurvey's podcast last week discussing how to use beBee for personal branding that I recalled the entire story.

That story included years of failure. You see, by the time I graduated high school I was fluent in Spanish from having been an exchange student in Spain. I majored in International Business in college. Everyone was telling me that combination would all but ensure me a job with a multinational corporation doing business in Spain, Latin America, or both! I had visions of partying in the clubs of Madrid until 5am and then waking up and closing business deals by day.

Wow, does reality hurt when it sets in!

I applied for jobs in international business for 10 years after I graduated college. Do you know how many jobs you can apply for in 10 years? That's a hell of a lot of no's!

It wasn't until I started blogging and investing heavily into my personal brand that opportunities started to come to me instead of me always being the one chasing it, applying for jobs, sending emails, calling hiring managers, going to networking events, etc.

Imagine that, beBee reached out to me! And before I knew it I was on a Skype call with beBee Co-founder Javier 🐝 beBee and I was named the first Brand Ambassador. It was the start of something special that continues to evolve and grow as every day goes by.

We're far from done, but I can't help to think of where I started when people ask me why I love beBee. I think of all the rejection letters I received from companies over the years. How they didn't even want to have a conversation with me and all of the excuses they gave me for not wanting to speak to me.

What I have learned, is that just because you lose (in my case a lot), it doesn't make you a loser. Use rejection as a motivational force in your life and keep improving yourself always. And yes, part of improving yourself is refining your personal brand, networking with like-minded people, and creating the type of content that attracts opportunities.

I'm honored to be a part of a company that is helping people do exactly that and that is why I love beBee.

I think the only real failure is giving up. Everything else is just experiences, lessons to be learned, and opportunities for growth...

This 🥚cellent Article John White, MBA was the germination for my Live Buzz about bamboo 🌿 Bamboo parables https://www.bebee.com/content/1727454/1485670
"What I have learned, is that just because you lose (in my case a lot), it doesn't make you a loser. " I was thinking something similar. You are only a failure if you submit to failure. You define this oh so well. Thanks.
Sometimes the cosmos just finds a way to bring two things together with a big bang! In your case, John White, MBA, it was beBee, and the fit appears to be perfect!

Reminds me of the Bamboo. You plant the seed. Nothing appears to happen for 5 years. However, beneath the surface, strong roots are developing and growing. The fifth year arrives. And then... ... in 6 weeks the bamboo grows to 80 feet tall, supported by those roots that nobody saw. We now see the results of your personal brand, your roots, John White, MBA

John, Well told. Point taken. There is a principle here that is evident in how you came to beBee. It is the wellspring of this coterie of minds. It is Trust. Each of us trusts the others to share our reality. Each of us trusts the others to hear us. Each of us trusts the others be in the moment with us. We share because we trust. I can't think of a better place to be.

Thanks for another good read, John. You make some excellent points as usual, as do the commenters below. I like to remind people that it took Thomas Edison hundreds of failed attempts before he finally got it right in his pursuit of inventing the light bulb. Yet he viewed each failed attempt at bringing him one step closer to reaching the goal. Persistence and perseverance are always key. I would also note that people tend to remember the successes and breakthroughs, rather than the many failures along the way. Thus, my advice -- like that of others -- is to view failure as a stepping stone toward success.

Great story John White, MBA. I'm so happy you found your niche. I have you to thank for joining beBee and introducing me to Javier back when I spent all my time on Linkedin. I'm so glad I took the leap over here, beBee has not disappointed me yet. You are admirable and I love the raw, yet true stories you share. It's stories like yours that give others hope. We have all felt rejection and it's good to remember others have too and succeed far above what they expected. You are such a positive person, I feel fortunate to have met you. Wishing you the best and more!!
