Kong API Developer

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and manage APIs using Kong Gateway.
• Configure and maintain API Gateway policies (rate limiting, authentication, logging).
• Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Implement API security mechanisms (OAuth2, JWT, API keys, mTLS).
• Customize Kong using plugins (Lua / custom plugins).
• Manage API lifecycle including versioning, publishing, and deprecation.
• Integrate Kong with microservices architecture and backend services.
• Monitor and troubleshoot API performance and traffic.
• Work closely with DevOps teams for CI/CD pipeline integration.
• Maintain API documentation and developer portals.

Required Skills

• Strong experience with Kong Gateway (Open Source or Enterprise)
• Knowledge of API Gateway concepts & API Management
• Proficiency in REST APIs, JSON, HTTP/HTTPS protocols
• Experience with Lua scripting for plugin development
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
• Understanding of microservices architecture
• Experience with authentication protocols (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT)
• Knowledge of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, etc.)
