MS SQL Server Administrator – Short Comprehensive Job Description The MS SQL Server Administrator is responsible for the availability, integrity, performance, security, and recoverability of all Microsoft SQL Server databases supporting clinical, financial, and operational systems across the healthcare environment. The role ensures 24x7 continuity of mission‑critical hospital applications by maintaining highly available SQL platforms, enforcing ADHICS/DoH compliance, and delivering secure, optimized, and fully recoverable database services.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer SQL Server 2016–2022 across production, UAT, and development environments.
- Operate and maintain AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Failover Clusters, replication, and log shipping.
- Manage full backup/restore lifecycle, perform restore drills, and ensure zero‑data‑loss recoverability.
- Conduct performance tuning, index optimization, statistics management, and execution plan analysis.
- Apply SQL patches, CUs, and security updates within maintenance windows.
- Implement TDE, Always Encrypted, TLS, row‑level security, and SQL Audit.
- Lead L3 incident response for blocking, deadlocks, corruption, failovers, and performance issues.
- Execute upgrades, migrations, and consolidation projects for clinical systems.
- Maintain capacity planning, runbooks, HA/DR playbooks, and SOPs.
- Support DR drills, CAB processes, schema changes, and vendor coordination.
- Provide audit evidence for ADHICS, DoH, ISO 27001, and cybersecurity reviews.

Experience & Certifications
- 6 years SQL Server DBA experience; 3 years HA/DR operations.
- Experience in mission‑critical 24x7 environments (healthcare preferred).
- Exposure to EMR/HIS/ERP/clinical reporting systems.
- Mandatory: DP‑300 or legacy MCSA/MCSE.
- Preferred: AZ‑104, ITIL 4, ADHICS/ISO 27001 training.
