This is a hands-on engineering role covering virtualisation platforms, clusters, High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), virtual networking, storage integration, performance optimisation, capacity planning, migrations, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, configure, administer, and support VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V environments.
  • Develop and maintain High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation.
  • Translate infrastructure and application requirements into virtualisation configurations and technical specifications.
  • Deploy and configure VMware ESXi, vCenter Server, clusters, datastores, HA, DRS, vMotion, and virtual networking.
  • Deploy and configure Microsoft Hyper-V, Windows Server Failover Clustering, Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV), virtual switches, and Live Migration.
  • Administer System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) for Hyper-V environments where applicable.
  • Configure and manage virtual machines, including vCPU, memory, storage, networking, and virtual disks.
  • Manage VM provisioning, cloning, templates, snapshots/checkpoints, migration, decommissioning, and lifecycle activities.
  • Configure and manage VMware vSwitch/Distributed Switch and Hyper-V Virtual Switch environments.
  • Integrate virtualisation platforms with enterprise SAN/NAS storage using FC, iSCSI, NFS, SMB, and other supported protocols.
  • Configure multipathing, datastores, storage volumes, and storage connectivity.
  • Implement and maintain High Availability and workload mobility across virtualisation clusters.
  • Support Disaster Recovery solutions, including VM replication, recovery, failover, and failback.
  • Integrate virtualisation platforms with enterprise backup and recovery solutions.
  • Perform platform patching, upgrades, firmware coordination, and lifecycle management.
  • Perform capacity planning and utilisation analysis across CPU, memory, storage, and networking.
  • Monitor and analyse host and cluster performance, resource contention, and infrastructure bottlenecks.
  • Perform health checks, performance tuning, and configuration compliance reviews.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues involving virtual machines, hypervisors, clusters, storage, networking, and management platforms.
  • Support P2V, V2V, VMware-to-Hyper-V, and other platform migration activities.
  • Implement virtualisation security hardening, role-based access control, vulnerability remediation, and security patching.
  • Support monitoring, ITSM, and event-management platform integrations.
  • Participate in incident, problem, change, and capacity management processes.
  • Support critical infrastructure incidents and perform root-cause analysis for recurring issues.
  • Maintain technical documentation, configuration standards, operational procedures, runbooks, and platform inventories.

Technical Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with VMware ESXi and vSphere.
  • Strong experience with vCenter Server, VMware HA, DRS, vMotion, and Distributed Switches.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Hyper-V and Windows Server Failover Clustering.
  • Experience with SCVMM, Live Migration, Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV), and Hyper-V Virtual Switch.
  • Experience with virtual networking and virtual storage.
  • Knowledge of SAN/NAS technologies and storage protocols including FC, iSCSI, NFS, and SMB.
  • Experience with VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) or similar DR technologies.
  • Understanding of DR orchestration solutions such as Zerto.
  • Experience integrating virtualisation platforms with backup and recovery solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of High Availability and Disaster Recovery.
  • Experience with performance tuning, capacity planning, and resource optimisation.
  • Experience with platform patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience with virtualisation platform migrations, including P2V and V2V.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience producing and maintaining HLD, LLD, build documentation, and operational procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years in a similar virtualisation or infrastructure engineering role.
  • VMware VCP-DCV certification is preferred.
  • ITIL 4 Foundation is preferred.
  • VCAP, VCDX, or relevant Microsoft virtualisation certifications are an advantage.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Strong technical leadership and team collaboration skills.
