Abdullah Eric Essop

My name is Abdullah Essop. I am passionate about teaching and have always had keen interests in the arts, and English. I completed my Master of Arts, Honours and Bachelor’s degrees in Media and Cultural studies. In recent years I have also developed and pursued interests in other media forms/art forms, such as photography, videography, film making, to name a few. I have also recently finished my PGCE (Postgraduate certification in Education) in English and Visual Arts.

I do have some experience teaching at a university in which I tutored first year Media and Cultural studies students. I have taught English in South Korea for 5 years. In the first 2 years I taught at middle school academies and the next three years accounted for teaching university students and adults. I made use of video-based lessons when planning class material so that my students could engage in critical discourse. I pride myself on being a conversationalist and I enjoy discussing reality-based topics in class. Since I use a humanistic teaching philosophy, I am naturally empathetic, professional and caring to students. I am always in favour of improving my teaching methods, improving task design and fostering active learning. By doing this, I believe that I can reach students on an individual basis and improve their lives.

I have Bachelors in English and Media Studies , An Honours in Media Studies, A Master's in the Arts and a Postgraduate certification in Education with subjects in English and Visual Arts
