Autonomy Engineer II at May Mobility Inc. (2021-02 – 2025-08)
Developed autonomous shuttle technology for May Mobility's Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) platform
- Developed a novel & efficient kinematics-based speed target generator, respecting braking comfort and curve geometry constraints
- Upgraded single-target generation into a full velocity-profile generator (SVTG), ensuring better continuity in speed targets between policy execution cycles, and forward-acceleration shaping
- Root-caused and fixed Controller 'arbitration' issues within MPDM policies by unifying jerk-limit handling across all controllers
- Developed a 'transition controller' to ensure smooth speed-target transitions between policies
- Integrated SVTG into a 'Compositional Policy' framework enabling modular design of velocity profiles for policies
- Developed, integrated, and deployed 'Control Theoretic Spline' based reference paths, enabling smoother setpoint generation for lateral control
- Integrated and tested a novel dynamics-aware Lateral Controller that improved ride comfort
- Integrated and tuned an EKF to reduce sensitivity of the lateral controller to localization noise
- Integrated and tested brake profile generators for a 'Reactive Stop' emergency braking system
- Integrated a novel ACC controller developed by the team, into the autonomy stack
- Root-caused and fixed Lateral 'Swimming' oscillations of Ego vehicle
- Developed 'Open Road Baseline', a simulation suite in Simian, to isolate controls performance from the full stack
- Developed introspection tools for various parts of the policy – especially maneuver generation & controllers
