Exercise became a key part of my life from a young age and i now recognise it as one of the most important factors in shaping my future career and long term goals. I have thrived in PE at school due to encouragement from supportive teachers and aspire to do the same, providing an inclusive environment for all abilities when delivering this to children. Since the age of four i have played competitive football.
My dedication to the sport has allowed me to gain professional playing experience through teams such as Hibs and Celtic. In recent years i have played lowland league and east of Scotland league football which as brought me several domestic successes including league titles. I volunteer during my free time as a football coach with several local youth teams, including salves on boys club, Edinburgh south and Gilmerton.
Through volunteering with these teams i have been able to gain my level 1.1, 1.2 and am currently working towards my level 1.3. As i constantly push myself into new experiences, this is an exciting learning opportunity to help gain the fundamental skills to enhance my teaching ability and contribute to the holistic development of children.
Job purpose is to support the learning, development and wellbeing of pupils by working closely with teachers and other professionals to help the children achieve their full potential. Particularly those with additional support needs, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.
Since past October I have been working closely 1-to-1 with a small child with visual impairments and autism. Working with a visual impaired and autistic child has been both a rewarding and eye-opening experience. I’ve learnt to adapt my approaches to meet their individual needs, using clear communication, tactile resources, and constant routines to help them feel safe and supported.
Building trust has been at the heart of everything - I’ve worked closely with teachers, parents and support staff to ensure we’re all using the same strategies that help the child feel secure and confident. Every small step forward, wether it’s engaging in a new activity or expressing themselves more clearly, feels like a big achievement. It’s taught me patience, empathy, and just how powerful the right support can be in helping a child thrive.
Working as a school sports holiday camp coach has been a fun and fulfilling experience. I’ve had the opportunity to work with children of all ages, helping them stay active, build confidence, and develop teamwork skills through a variety of games and sports. My role involved planning, setting up, and delivering activities, demonstrating techniques, and encouraging every child to take part, regardless of their ability.
I loved seeing their excitement and energy each day, and it was rewarding to know I was making a positive impact on their holidays. The experience also helped me grow in leadership, communication, and organisation, all while doing something I truly enjoy.
