Throughout my Bachelor and Master studies, I have been focused on immunological research. My Bachelor thesis involved analysing vaccine-specific T cells in cryopreserved PBMCs, to establish a thawing and stimulation protocol for the VITAL (Vaccines and infectious disease in the aging population) study. In my Master’s thesis, I explored the functionality of human CD4+ regulatory T cells (TREG), investigating their potential changes in aging.
I characterized a subset of TREG which shows differential expression of key regulatory molecules between young and old individuals. The laboratory work during my Master's thesis not only provided me with a profound understanding of classical immunological assays and flow cytometry (FACS) but also gave me the freedom to explore and innovate. I was able to establish a new migration assay based on sorted T cells and a cytokine secretion assay, offering a unique perspective on the functionality of regulatory T cells.
Beyond academia, I have dedicated the last twelve years to working full-time with the mountain rescue service in Lech am Arlberg (Austria), an experience that has taught me the values of endurance, teamwork, and adaptability in face of challenges.
