About the Role We are looking for a Senior Java Application Architect to join a long-term project in Brussels. The ideal candidate is a highly experienced Java professional with strong architectural skills and a proven track record of designing and delivering enterprise-scale applications.

You will work closely with business stakeholders, architects, developers and technical teams to define robust, scalable and maintainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities Architecture & Design

• Design and evolve application and software architectures.
• Create and maintain Software Architecture and Technical Design documentation.
• Translate functional requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Analyse existing applications and identify opportunities for modernization and improvement.
• Define and enforce development best practices, including Clean Code, SOLID, DRY and design patterns.

Development & Technical Leadership

• Act as a senior technical expert within the development team.
• Develop and review high-quality Java application modules.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to developers.
• Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to architectural and development standards.
• Organise and drive refactoring activities.
• Optimise applications for performance, scalability, memory usage and response times.

Collaboration

• Work closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Architects and Development Teams.
• Participate in technical discussions and architectural decision-making.
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Mandatory Requirements

• 10+ years of professional experience in software development / application architecture.
• Strong and proven experience with Java and enterprise application development.
• Strong experience in software architecture and technical design.
• Excellent knowledge of Spring / Spring Boot and modern Java ecosystems.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices and enterprise integration.
• Excellent knowledge of software engineering principles such as SOLID, DRY, Clean Code and Design Patterns.
• Experience with application performance optimisation and refactoring.
• Strong technical leadership and communication skills.
• French: Native or equivalent professional fluency – mandatory.
• Ability to work hybrid in Brussels, with at least 50% on-site presence.

Nice to Have

• Experience in large-scale enterprise or public-sector environments.
• Cloud experience such as Azure, AWS or GCP.
• Experience with Docker / Kubernetes / OpenShift.
• CI/CD and DevOps experience.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Experience working in international or multicultural teams.
