Freelance Java Back-end Developer – Brussels

We are looking for an experienced Freelance Java Back-end Developer to join a high-visibility Agile environment in Brussels. You will work in a cross-functional squad responsible for critical customer-facing products within a large-scale enterprise IT landscape.The team focuses on building and evolving digital solutions used across multiple channels and business lines, with a strong emphasis on back-end development, integrations, and modernisation.

Your mission

As a senior back-end developer, you will:

Maintain and further develop existing Java applications

Build new back-end services and applications

Migrate legacy applications to newer versions and architectures

Work on integrations with third-party providers

Translate business requirements into clean, high-quality code

Design, build and maintain performant and reliable Java applications using Spring

Write unit tests and ensure robustness, performance and scalability

Actively participate in code reviews, refactoring and CI/CD practices

Your profile

Minimum 4 years of relevant experience as a Java Developer

Strong professional knowledge of English (Dutch and/or French is a plus)

Solid experience with:

Java, Spring, Maven

RESTful APIs

Oracle DB

OO principles, SOLID, DDD and design patterns

Hands-on experience with:

Git, CI/CD pipelines

Jenkins, SonarQube, Fortify, Nexus IQ (or similar tools)

Test Driven Development
