Martin Baar

Dear Madam/Sir,

My name is Martin Baar. I am 21 years old, and I was born and raised in Belgium. Since September 2019, I have been studying International Business at Maastricht University. During the last year of my bachelor’s program, I got the opportunity to specialize in Organization management and to participate in an exchange program. My exchange semester took place at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. As depicted in my curriculum vitae, I am fluent in French and English. I also have a decent knowledge of Dutch, and I am currently studying German with the aim of becoming fluent.

During my studies and through the multiple jobs that I exerted in recent years, I developed skills such as emotional intelligence, adaptability, and critical thinking which I believe to be highly valuable when integrating a company. Additionally, Maastricht university through its unconventional “Problem Based Learning” study approach, allowed me to deeply improve my autonomy alongside my ability to work in groups.

Three years ago, me and two other friends founded a youth organization comprising 30 active members. As president, I was responsible for managing the group, the logistic, and the overall development of specific events. Given the difficult circumstances raised by the COVID-19 crisis, a serious effort had to be made to prevent the organization from collapsing. This experience enabled me to put my knowledge to practice and further develop my project management capability. Furthermore, it gave me the opportunity to develop additional negotiation strategies and broaden my network. In addition to this exceptional experience, I worked as a student in multiple companies. Notably, Mertens Mathy, a company responsible for beverage stands in events like the F1 Grand Prix at Spa Francorchamps. At that time, I was managing a stand with four waiters. I am currently doing an internship at Porsche in the Procurement and Supply Chain department. It is by far the most challenging and rich experience that I have ever had to go through.

Hardworking, ambitious, caring, open-minded and, flexible are the characteristics that I position as most important in both professional and private life. Additionally, my family and friends usually describe me as easygoing and always ready for adventure. Through my work experience, I also realised that I love to work under pressure and, motivate the people around me to release their full potential.
