- *The Team**
This role is ideal for a backend engineer or early-career database professional looking to build expertise in database platform engineering. You'll work on modern infrastructure initiatives including containerization, automation with Python, and DevOps practices while learning enterprise database administration. The role involves working closely with senior engineers, Infrastructure teams, developers, and end users to modernize our database platform.
This role offers the opportunity to work on exciting technologies like Docker, Kubernetes and exposure to other DevOps aligned methods of automation, real time monitoring and metrics collections using latest Open-Source toolsets; Grafana, InfluxDB, Prometheus etc.
You'll also have opportunities to explore and leverage GenAI and LLM technologies to enhance automation, improve operational efficiency, and build intelligent tooling for database management.
- *Role Responsibilities
- Build automation tooling and infrastructure-as-code for database provisioning and configuration management.
- Develop monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions using Grafana, Prometheus, and InfluxDB.
- Work on containerizing databases using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Create CI/CD pipelines for database deployments and schema changes.
- Explore and implement GenAI/LLM-powered solutions for database operations (query optimization suggestions, intelligent alerting, etc.).
- Learn database administration through hands-on work with Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and SQL Server.
- Build self-service tools for developers (database provisioning, migration automation).
- Participate in performance testing and optimization initiatives.
- Assist with day-to-day database support and administration tasks.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure teams and developers to implement optimal solutions.
- Participate in an on-call support rota.
- *Key Competencies
- *Required
- 1-4 years of experience in backend development, infrastructure engineering, or database administration.
- Strong programming skills in Python, or similar languages.
- Solid understanding of Linux/Unix systems.
- Experience with at least one relational database (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server).
- Understanding of SQL and database fundamentals (queries, indexing, transactions).
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD concepts.
- Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python, or PowerShell).
- Proven ability to automate repetitive tasks.
- Enthusiasm for learning database internals and platform engineering.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Flexibility to broaden and develop skills in any area as required.
- *Advantageous
- Interest in or experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and GenAI technologies.
- Experience leveraging AI tools for code generation, documentation, or operational automation.
- Familiarity with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source models) or RAG patterns.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible, or similar).
- Exposure to Docker containerization and Kubernetes.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus).
- Understanding of database concepts (replication, backup/recovery, high availability).
- Exposure to NoSQL databases (MongoDB).
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
