Java Developer

Job Description Kiteworks is a highly profitable and growing software company making a meaningful impact in the security and compliance space.

We are looking for a Senior Java Developer to join our engineering team and help build and evolve our next-generation secure email gateway platform. This role focuses on developing highly secure software solutions with advanced cryptographic capabilities that are deeply integrated with the Kiteworks platform. The ideal candidate is a strong Java engineer with a security-first mindset, experience working across the software development lifecycle, and a passion for modernizing complex enterprise systems.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain a high-security email gateway product with advanced cryptographic capabilities integrated into the Kiteworks platform.
• Build and enhance backend services and platform components primarily using Java, while contributing across other technologies as needed.
• Develop scalable, secure, and high-performance software solutions with strong attention to data structures, algorithms, and system design principles.
• Embed security throughout the software development lifecycle, including architecture reviews, code reviews, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to improve CI/CD pipelines, build automation, release packaging, and infrastructure modernization efforts.
• Partner with QA teams to define and execute comprehensive testing strategies, including functional, regression, performance, and security testing.
• Work closely with Technical Documentation teams to ensure installation guides, deployment documentation, and user manuals remain accurate and up to date.
• Drive architectural improvements and modernization initiatives while balancing product stability, security, scalability, and future platform evolution.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across development, deployment, and production environments.
• Stay current on emerging technologies, software engineering best practices, security trends, and cryptographic standards.

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Security, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience with strong expertise in Java.
• Proven experience developing and maintaining enterprise-grade software applications in production environments.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns.
• Experience building scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems and services.
• Working knowledge of cryptographic concepts, including encryption, decryption, digital certificates, and secure communication protocols.
• Understanding of common application security vulnerabilities and secure coding best practices.
• Familiarity with email and messaging technologies, including SMTP, IMAP, POP3, email gateways, and concepts such as S/MIME and PGP.
• Experience integrating applications using REST APIs and service-oriented architectures.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, build automation, deployment processes, and release management practices.
• Experience contributing to comprehensive testing strategies, including automated, regression, and security testing.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with experience working across global and cross-functional teams.

Additional Qualifications

• Experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Hibernate, or other Java enterprise technologies.
• Experience developing security-focused, compliance-driven, or enterprise SaaS applications.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices, infrastructure automation, and modern software delivery methodologies.
• Experience supporting legacy applications while driving modernization and platform transformation initiatives.
• Familiarity with secure email technologies, secure communications platforms, or cybersecurity products.
• Understanding of industry security standards and compliance frameworks.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, globally distributed software development environment.
• Relevant Java, cloud, or security certifications are a plus.
