Requirements

We are looking for a Database Reliability Engineer (PostgreSQL) to own the performance, reliability, and operational health of our production environments.

In this role, you'll bridge the gap between Database Administration and DevOps, ensuring our data systems are not just "up," but fast, scalable, and resilient.

Key Responsibilities

Production Ownership:

Manage and maintain PostgreSQL instances across development, staging, and production environments

Performance Engineering:

Deep-dive into query optimization, indexing strategies, and schema tuning to keep latency low as we scale

Reliability & Scaling:

Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues including slow queries, locking contention, replication lags, and vertical/horizontal scaling bottlenecks

Data Protection:

Design and implement bulletproof backup, restore, and disaster recovery (DR) processes. If the worst happens, you're the one with the plan

High Availability:

Architect and manage HA clusters and seamless failover strategies to ensure zero-to-minimal downtime

Infrastructure as Code:

Automate database provisioning, deployments, and routine maintenance using modern CI/CD and configuration management tools

Cross-Functional Partnership:

Act as a consultant to our software engineers, helping them design better data models and write more efficient queries from day one

Core Requirements

Extensive hands-on experience managing PostgreSQL in high-traffic, large-scale production environments

Strong proficiency in Linux internals and experience with cloud ecosystems (AWS RDS/Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL, or Azure Database)

Strong scripting skills in Python, Go, or Bash. If you have to do it twice, you've already started writing the script to automate it

Experience with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or PGHero to proactively catch issues before they become incidents
