For more information about Grammar, please visit the School’s website at https://www.halifaxgrammar.ca The Halifax Grammar School (Grammar) is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller for a full-time position reporting to the Director of Business Operations.
Role Description The Assistant Controller is responsible for administering the general ledger, managing banking relationships, and reconciling accounts. They also assist with all internal and external reporting and preparing the annual budget. The Assistant Controller supervises accounts receivable, payroll, and benefits administration and is responsible for full-cycle accounts payable.
The successful candidate will
- Possess strong knowledge of accounting principles
- Be proficient in accounting software such as Sage/QuickBooks
- Be proficient in management software, such as MS Office Suite, is required
- Possess strong organizational and time management skills
- Be detail-oriented and accurate
- Be self-directed with the ability to delegate or instruct others
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Have a strong knowledge of accounting for non-profit organizations and all aspects of payroll and benefits.
Qualifications
- Degree in Business Administration or Commerce with a major in Accounting
- 5-7 years of experience in an accounting/finance environment
- CPA/CA designation, or in process, is preferred
- Experience working with confidential information, such as payroll and benefit information
