Job description

Position Description:

This role is hybrid and requires you to be at a Client office at a minimum 4 days per week subject to change at any time.

We are looking for a senior data professional with a strong combination of Data Modeling (50%) and Data Engineering (50%) experience, capable of designing enterprise data models while also building and optimizing scalable data solutions.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

Design JSON schemas for MongoDB-based operational data stores, aligned with business processes, query patterns, and schema evolution requirements.

Design and maintain Databricks/Delta Lake schemas that support curated and reusable data products.

Develop reusable Payments data products across individual payment domains and enterprise-wide payment views.

Design and evolve a Payments context layer and canonical data model to support analytics, reporting, and downstream data consumption.

Translate business requirements into logical and physical data models for operational and analytical use cases.

Support schema versioning, migration strategies, backward compatibility, and ongoing model evolution.

Design data products aligned with governance standards, metadata requirements, discoverability, and access controls within Unity Catalog or similar platforms.

Define and differentiate source-aligned, domain-aligned, and consumer-aligned data products.

Collaborate with business analysts, architects, data engineers, and other stakeholders to operationalize data models through ingestion, transformation, and curation pipelines.

Support data governance initiatives including metadata management, data quality, lineage, documentation, and access management.

Create clear and comprehensive documentation to ensure data assets are reusable, understandable, and fit for purpose.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

Data Modeling – 50%

8+ years of overall data experience with strong hands-on expertise in data modeling across operational and analytical environments.

Design conceptual, logical, and physical data models based on business requirements, workflows, integration needs, and query patterns.

Strong experience designing JSON and semi-structured data models, particularly using MongoDB or similar document databases.

Experience designing relational, analytical, and lakehouse data models using SQL-based platforms.

Design reusable datasets, canonical models, enterprise context layers, and data products supporting APIs, analytics, reporting, and downstream consumers.

Define strategies for schema evolution, versioning, migration, and backward compatibility.

Strong understanding of data product principles including ownership, usability, discoverability, documentation, and consumer alignment.

Experience with metadata management, data lineage, data quality, privacy, audit controls, and governance frameworks.

Familiarity with Unity Catalog, Collibra, or similar metadata/catalog and governance platforms.

Experience working closely with business stakeholders, architects, analysts, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable data designs.

Data Engineering – 50%

Strong hands-on experience with Databricks, PySpark, Spark SQL, SQL, and Delta Lake.

Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines for batch and streaming workloads.

Build and optimize data pipelines that ingest, transform, validate, and publish data from multiple source systems.

Advanced SQL skills with hands-on experience developing complex transformations and data processing logic.

Experience with Delta Lake optimization, partitioning strategies, performance tuning, and Databricks engineering best practices.

Experience with Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, or comparable cloud data platforms.

Understanding of event-driven architectures, Kafka, schema registries, and streaming data patterns.

Experience implementing data quality checks, monitoring, error handling, reconciliation, and production support for data pipelines.

Knowledge of MongoDB indexing, sharding, performance tuning, and MongoDB Atlas.

Experience supporting CI/CD, deployment, testing, and operationalization of enterprise data solutions.

Domain & Preferred Experience

Experience working within the Payments domain.

Familiarity with ISO 20022 payment messaging standards and associated data/schema structures.

Experience integrating data across multiple enterprise source systems.

Experience working within regulated financial services environments, including data privacy, lineage, audit, security, and governance requirements.

Strong stakeholder management, communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
