As ATB's Director of Data Engineering, you will lead and mentor our high-performing team of data engineers, setting the vision and strategy for our data infrastructure within the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem.
This is a key leadership role responsible for defining and enforcing the architectural standards and guidelines that power our advanced analytics and reporting capabilities.
You will serve as the organization's "go-to" expert for data engineering, managing the architectural implications of new solutions and collaborating with senior leadership to ensure our data platforms align with ATB's strategic objectives.
Your strong interpersonal skills and deep technical understanding will be crucial as you coach your team and guide the business in making data-driven decisions.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead, manage, and coach a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Mentor teammates at all levels, supporting their career development through active coaching and performance management.
Attract, hire, and retain top data engineering talent to build a competent team.
Data Engineering Strategy & Architecture
Develop and execute the long-term data engineering roadmap, aligning with the company's patterns and analytical models.
Define, enforce, and contribute to specifications and standards for data architecture, ensuring alignment across all data analytics platforms.
Manage the architectural implications of advanced analytics solutions, ensuring all new platforms are scalable, secure, and reliable.
Evaluate and champion new GCP services, technologies, and methodologies to keep ATB's data infrastructure modern and cost-effective.
Oversight Of Data Solutions & Operations
Oversee the entire lifecycle of data solutions, from ingestion and pipeline development (ETL/ELT) to data modeling and storage in GCP services like BigQuery.
Ensure the team delivers robust data quality, governance, and security measures, adhering to enterprise rules and banking industry regulations.Guide the strategy for data visualization and reporting (including Tableau), ensuring the team delivers insightful and high-performance dashboards that meet stakeholder needs.
Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
Act as the primary data engineering partner for senior leadership, data scientists, and business stakeholders.
Translate complex business strategies into a clear technical roadmap and communicate implications, risks, and opportunities to non-technical audiences.Serve as the "go-to person" for data engineering expertise, consulting on projects across different fields and fostering strong cross-functional relationships.
Skills, Experience & Requirements A master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related quantitative field is preferred.10+ years of experience in data engineering, software development, or a related field, with a strong focus on data architecture and cloud solutions.
At least 4-5 years of direct people management experience, with a proven ability to hire, coach, and develop a team of high-performing engineers.
Expert-level knowledge of the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) data ecosystem (e.g., BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Storage, Cloud Composer).Deep, holistic understanding of modern data engineering, including data architecture, data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, data governance, and data quality assurance.
Strong understanding of data visualization principles and the role of tools like Tableau in communicating business insights.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to influence and communicate with senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to translate high-level business strategy into a technical data roadmap and execution plan.
Strong strategic and critical thinking skills, with an innovative mindset and a track record of exceeding quality requirements.Experience in the banking or finance industry is highly desirable, with knowledge of banking-specific data challenges, regulatory compliance, and key metrics.
