What is the Opportunity?
CanAtom, a joint venture between AtkinsRéalis and Aecon, is delivering the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Refurbishment Project under a collaborative contract with Ontario Power Generation. The joint venture is underway to complete the retube, feeder, and boiler replacement (RFBR) of Units 5–8. Building on the successful delivery of the Darlington Refurbishment Project, the CanAtom team brings proven experience in safely executing complex nuclear projects on time and on budget to support Ontario’s clean energy future.
The Environmental
Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator will report to the EHS Director. They will be responsible for learning the implementation, monitoring, and improvement of the project’s EHS Program; while working with the Safety team, Project Directors, Construction Managers and Supervisors to continuously improve EHS performance.
What You’ll Do Here:
Support the monitoring of EHS performance metrics and assist with preparing routine reports while developing familiarity with project reporting processes. Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of EHS procedures, reports, and communications under the guidance of senior team members. Work alongside Health Physics staff to help gather worker dose management and tracking information and learn applicable requirements.
Enter program non‑conformances into the tracking database and support the preparation of monthly summaries while building confidence with data systems. Assist in creating basic ad hoc reports and help maintain existing reporting tools. Monitor updates to client EHS Management System documentation and flag any potential impacts for the project team.
Support the review of EHS training updates by helping verify alignment with project programs and gaining understanding of training requirements. Help process and manage user access requests for EHS data collection systems. Maintain organized and accurate EHS records, learning proper documentation and retention practices.
Support updates to EHS and Human Performance digital data collection systems by assisting with data entry, testing, or feedback gathering. Contribute ideas and observations to help identify improvements for team processes and tools as your knowledge grows. Take a collaborative, learning‑oriented approach, working closely with the EHS team to build skills and support continuous improvement of the EHS Program.
Communicate with supervisors, managers, and trades to help address EHS‑related questions or issues as they arise, escalating to senior staff when needed. What You Bring to the Team:
Experience with EHS in the Construction industry preferred Experience working with users to gather requirements Understanding of safety management processes and safety software experience required
Excellent communication, publication and presentation skills Ability to detect errors in reports and data analysis Experience with MS Office suite required Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy
Adept at report and procedure writing Experience in the nuclear industry is considered an asset. Ability to quickly establish a credible relationship and interact effectively with the full spectrum of staff from skilled trades to senior management.
Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities and follow through to implementation. Classroom presentation/facilitation skills including classroom and practical instructional abilities. Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment
OPG or Bruce Power Security Clearance would be considered an asset. This position requires the successful candidate to be in the field observing work, requiring the ability to walk more than 3 km per day, climb minimum 3 flights of stairs and occasionally climb ladders. This role requires flexibility to support project demands, including shift work, extended hours, and occasional weekend or night work throughout the duration of the project.
This role requires the successful candidate to work within a nuclear environment. Various work locations in both field and office. Frequent travel between work sites. Work in respirator and plastics (as required).
Potential entry into confined space and working at heights. Radiological environments Due to the nature of work conducted by CanAtom, mandated nuclear export controls requirements must be met for employment.

Pay Range: $49,000 - $70,000
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
