We are currently looking for an intermediate mechanical designer to join our growing team! Ideally, you have experience designing industrial automation mechanical equipment. In this role, you will be responsible for independently designing custom industrial machinery in collaboration with our engineering team. The main attributes of the position are as follows:
- Pay: CA$30.00-CA$38.00 (commensurate with experience)
- Fulltime position 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday),
- In-office position (no provisions for remote work)
- Minimum 3-year diploma in a Mechanical Engineering Technology program from a recognized Canadian college.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in design of mechanical equipment or industrial automation equipment.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada at the time of application. This position does not offer immigration or work‑permit sponsorship.
- Possession of valid passport.
- Fluent in English.
- Possession of valid G-license.
- Is competent with the design of industrial machinery.
- Has working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Has working knowledge of commercially available industrial materials and components.
- Is proficient in the preparation of manufacturing drawings.
- Is proficient in the application of GD&T on manufacturing drawings.
- Is proficient in the application of practical machine component fits.
- Is proficient with the design of weldments.
- Is fluent in SolidWorks with knowledge of SolidWorks weldments, assemblies and PDM.
- Is fluent in AutoCAD.
- Has experience in machine assembly or servicing.

- Collaborate with electrical design team and other project team members to execute designs within defined project scopes, schedules, and budgets established by the company.
- Work with a strong sense of personal pride, accountability and integrity, self-checking work to ensure quality at every stage of a project.
- Develop mechanical designs from initial concepts through to detailed manufacturing drawings, as dictated by project requirements.
- Adhere to Ionic standards and procedures throughout the company’s design and development process, recognizing that consistent quality in design work reflects an individual commitment.
- Prepare and maintain project technical documentation per project requirements.
- Generate bills of materials (BOMs) for completed designs to support the company’s procurement and manufacturing efforts, owning the precision of these outputs to prevent costly errors in our production process.
- Create procurement packages for outsourced manufactured parts and collaborate with the company’s procurement team to evaluate supplier quotes, understanding that thoroughness in this process upholds the integrity of our final products.
- Inspect manufactured parts for conformity to drawings, checking quality documentation and archiving quality documents.
- Provide technical assistance to the company’s shop team during machine assembly processes, stepping up to resolve issues and ensure designs translate effectively into the final product.
- Provide assistance as required in physical shop assembly to assist the shop team during the build phases of projects.
- Participate in shop testing of machines to verify performance and functionality prior to delivery.
- Travel to customer sites in various regions worldwide to provide construction and/or commissioning support as needed, representing Ionic with professionalism, integrity and accountability.
- Demonstrate flexibility to take on tasks outside of the job description as needed to support customers.
- Full time position 40 hours per week
- Monday to Friday (overtime as required)

Ionic Mechatronics specializes in engineering of custom machinery, including robotics, electronics, networking, computing, hydraulics, design, and automation. Ionic is heavily involved industrial automation systems, new products development as well as underground mining chutes and mobile tools for mines.
