Role Description

Intern – Data Engineer (Long-Term Internship)

Location: Kitchener, ON (Hybrid – 15 hours/week in office, remaining hours remote)

Hours: 20 hours per week

Compensation: Hourly rate based on experienced

We are looking for a motivated Data Engineer Intern to join our team and work on real-world data migration and analytics projects. This is a long-term internship opportunity ideal for someone who wants hands-on experience working with modern data engineering tools and solving complex data problems.

You will collaborate with experienced data professionals and contribute to building scalable data pipelines, performing data migrations, and developing analytical dashboards.

Key Responsibilities

• Work on data migration projects, supporting the movement and transformation of large datasets.
• Develop and maintain Stored Procedures in Microsoft SQL Server.
• Build and optimize data pipelines using Apache Airflow.
• Work with Spark SQL and Python for data transformation and processing.
• Write complex SQL queries to solve analytical and business problems.
• Assist in building Tableau dashboards for data visualization and analytics.
• Support the team in maintaining data quality, performance, and reliability across data workflows.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 3 years of hands-on experience working on data-related projects (academic, internship, or professional).
• Strong experience with SQL and database concepts.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and writing stored procedures.
• Working knowledge of Python and Spark SQL.
• Familiarity with Apache Airflow for workflow orchestration.
• Exposure to Tableau or similar data visualization tools.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Additional Information

This is a contract hybrid role for an Intern - Data Engineer, based in Kitchener, ON, with the flexibility to work remotely part of the time. The selected candidate will assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining data pipelines, data models, and ETL processes. They will work closely with the Data Engineering team to support data transformation tasks, enable efficient data warehousing, and conduct data analytics to enhance system performance and data accuracy.

The intern will also gain hands-on experience with real-world datasets while contributing to innovative projects.

Qualifications

• Foundational knowledge in Data Engineering and hands-on experience with related tools and technologies
• Proficiency in Data Modeling and Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes
• Understanding of Data Warehousing concepts and their practical application
• Ability to conduct basic Data Analytics to derive insights and improve processes
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and challenges
• Enrollment in or completion of a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
• Familiarity with Python, SQL, or similar programming languages is a plus
