Java Software Developer (Junior/Intermediate) Reports To: Director of Engineering
Location: Montreal, QC (Hybrid: work remotely in Montréal or from the office, your choice!) About us
Broadsign is a growing software company with a mission to make buying, selling, and delivering out-of-home media easier than ever. Our software is operated by some of the most successful out-of-home businesses and powers impactful, compelling campaigns seen across the world.
Come join us as a Java Software Developer (Junior/Intermediate) in Montreal.
About the role The R&D department is at the center of the action at Broadsign. Your main focus will be to design and develop new features on both the front- and back-end of our software suite. And, because you’re a technology enthusiast, you’ll probably want to tweak and maintain our existing feature set as well! You’ll get to participate in sprints where you’ll be encouraged to share your ideas and knowledge with your team. Basically, you’ll be working in a dynamic and peer-driven environment where you’ll play with all the latest and greatest hardware and software! What you need to perform this job
2-4 years of professional software development experience.
Good knowledge/experience with Java development, but you have a strong interest in working with Kotlin and TypeScript.
Experience with Git version control and CI/CD practices.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience. What to Expect
Feature Development & Evolution: In this role, you will develop and maintain our Media Player Application (Android and TypeScript). This isn't your typical consumer app; it’s a mission-critical system designed for high availability with minimal human interaction.
While our current stack leverages Kotlin, TypeScript, WebView/Chromium, and Jetpack, we believe a strong foundation in Java is the perfect springboard for success here. We are looking for Java developers who are excited to apply their expertise to Android environments and evolve their skills into Kotlin and TypeScript. You’ll be part of a DevOps culture that prioritizes clean, secure code and dedicated Innovation Days to explore new ideas.
Collaboration & Agile Practices: You will join a high-performing Agile team comprising a Product Manager, a QA Analyst, and a group of driven developers. Success is built on collaboration; you will actively participate in code reviews, offering and receiving constructive feedback to uphold our high standards. You will contribute to technical design discussions and help shape the future architecture of our applications as we continue to innovate in the DOOH space.
Quality & Performance Optimization: Quality is at the core of what we do. You will identify, debug, and fix defects and implement unit and integration tests using JUnit and Jest. Because our software runs on a diverse range of hardware globally, you will focus on optimizing applications for maximum stability and performance, even on low-spec devices.
