Position InformationBig Brothers Big Sisters of South Durham and Northumberland (BBBSSDN) is a registered charitable organization that provides mentorship to children and youth through individual and group mentoring programs.
We are seeking an energetic, organized and adaptable individual to develop a new STEM based group mentorship program. The Project Coordinator will research and develop the STEM curriculum, recruit screen and train mentors, and engage mentees. The Coordinator will work in collaboration with BBBSSDN staff, community partners, and other stakeholders to successfully deliver the program in locations across South Durham and Northumberland County.

Primary Responsibilities
- Research and develop an 8-week STEM group consisting of experiential social and emotional learning activities.
- Recruit, screen and train volunteer mentors and college/university practicum students who deliver the program.
- Recruit and engage mentees to take part in the program.
- Coordinate delivery, supervision and conclusion of group program.
- Deliver required Child Safety Training to mentors and mentees.
- Build positive relationships with staff, clients and volunteers, and foster positive relationships with community groups to deliver programming.
- Develop and deliver program specific training for mentors.
- Communicate regularly with participants to ascertain that the elements of child safety, relationship development, positive youth development and volunteer satisfaction are fulfilled and that potential challenges are identified and addressed.
- Actively participate in program evaluation, including gathering input from partners, conducting supervision meetings with mentors and students and collecting necessary evaluation forms.
- Attend regular team meetings and provide timely reports, statistics and project outputs.
- Apply child safety and risk management knowledge, policies and procedures throughout all aspects of job function.
- Keep accurate, up to date and thorough documentation about the program and participants in both case files and electronic database.
- Maintain partnership files in accordance with BBBSC National Standards and agency policies and procedures.
- Develop and distribute program marketing and promotional materials.
- Assist with agency special events or fundraising as required.
- Maintain BBBSSDN policies, including confidentiality and duty to report per Child Youth and Family Services Act and agency policies.
Requirements
- A university degree or a two-year post-secondary diploma in a related field e.g. child & youth worker, social services, recreation and leisure, education, STEM, etc.
- A minimum of 2 years demonstrated work or volunteer experience in a related field
- Demonstrated experience with case management, volunteer management and supervision of practicum students
- Specific training in human development, interview and assessment skills, group work, and child safety
- Demonstrated experience with STEM, program planning and mentorship
- Knowledge of best practices of child/youth and volunteer engagement
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent time management, organizational and administrative skills
- Strong problem-solving skills, reliable and maintains confidentiality
- Demonstrated ability to develop strong and effective relationships with professionals, volunteers, children/youth and postsecondary institutions
- Experience working with children/youth in a community/school setting
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team setting
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Must have ability to travel across South Durham and Northumberland
- Provide upon request a satisfactory Criminal Reference check and Vulnerable Sector Search
- First Aid and CPR an asset
