Software Engineer I
PheedLoopJob description
This is a 100% full-time position based in our spacious Toronto office at Yonge & Sheppard.
About
PheedLoopPheedLoop is a Toronto-based software company revolutionizing the events and conferences industry. We've built everything from innovative event automation platforms to virtual event technology and custom hardware-and we're one of the world's fastest-growing event tech companies. As a bootstrapped, profitable business, we've grown sustainably while maintaining a close-knit engineering culture. We're not looking to hire people to follow a roadmap-we're looking for builders who ask the right questions, spot opportunities others miss, and own features end-to-end.
What You'll Actually Do
- Contribute code across our full stack, making architectural decisions and pushing back on specs when necessary
- Build and optimize REST APIs that solve real problems, not just implement what was specified
- Create intuitive, beautiful interfaces that users love
- Dig into production issues, understand the "why," and improve our systems for the next person
- Stay curious about emerging tools and techniques-including AI-and evaluate how they genuinely improve our work
- Work closely with a small team where your decisions matter immediately, and your impact is visible
- Ship features. A lot. With ownership from conception to deployment
You're not afraid to work outside your comfort zone; in fact, you expect to. You see gaps in your knowledge as opportunities, not obstacles. You think strategically about features-you ask about user workflows, business constraints, and long-term implications. You collaborate well but aren't dependent on constant guidance.
You have strong communication skills and can explain your reasoning clearly. You're pragmatic about AI tools: you use them where they genuinely speed up your work and improve quality, and you know when not to rely on them. You demonstrate your passion for software through side projects, contributions, or deep dives into problems you find interesting.
What You Should
Have
- Solid experience with a backend framework (Python/Django preferred) and any frontend framework (React or Flutter preferred)
- Real understanding of REST APIs, databases, and how to build reliable systems
- Experience with Git and version control workflows
- Strong fundamentals in writing clean, maintainable and secure code
- Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
- Comfort in fast-paced environments and the ability to adapt when priorities shift
- Enthusiasm for growing as an engineer and learning from your team
- 100% health coverage
- Open workspace with room to grow
- Team outings, snacks, books, and learning opportunities
- Work on features that thousands of event organizers use
- Direct impact and rapid feedback on your contributions
- A genuinely collaborative team that values your ideas
