The role will manage and direct a cross-function software engineering team that identifies, recommends, develops, implements, and supports IT solutions to support and enable strategic and tactical business goals and objectives. The role is also responsible for setting the direction and vision for the team, holding team members accountable for their performance as well as monitoring team productivity, quality and morale.

The Technology Manager role will manage and steward a set of technology assets within a technology platform. The role will collaborate with business and IT roles on solution design and development of systems, and applications that may depend on or are used by another platform. The role will create and drive technical strategy and technical roadmaps for a set of technology assets within a technology platform and work collaboratively with the product owner/manager towards a set of shared Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).

The role will ensure the platform (logical set of technology, tools, skills, assets) maintains supportability, reliability, and scalability. As well, continually look for ways to improve the quality and speed of releases while maintaining high employee engagement of the team.

You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement, and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

What you’ll do

Sets technical vision and roadmap for assigned assets within a platform to support and enhance business outcomes;

Own the technical roadmap and deliver milestones for assigned assets by working closely with business, engineering and operations teams;

Monitor, steward and advance the technical health and performance of assigned assets;

Works with architects to develop the technology capability roadmap of assigned assets;

Manage the lifecycle of vendor platforms and overall vendor relationships;

Enable and guide team to deliver high quality solutions in a sustainable and optimized manner;

Identify, document, continuously improve, and implement end-to-end software development, quality, delivery, and support processes;

Accountable to ensure technical standards, guidelines, and principles are upheld by team;

Own the technology KPIs and prioritization of assigned assets;

Build and set direction and vision for the team; and

Other duties as requested.

What you’ll bring

3+ years in a team leadership/management role in software solutions design and development;

7+ years hands on enterprise class software solution design and development;

University degree or equivalent technical education;

Strong working knowledge and experience in application development, quality, deployment, and security practices;

Exceptional organizational skills, including the capability to break down complex enterprise needs spanning multiple assets into multi-phased, implementable solution plans;

In-depth, hands-on background with software systems design and development using some of these technologies; React, Angular, .Net, C#/VB.Net, SQL, and/or Azure;

Excellent knowledge of code management, build and release and quality practices;

Ability to analyze system designs and review solutions for code and/or functional quality;

Ability to translate business needs into solution architecture requirements;

Ability to define multiple solution options to business problems;

Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies;

Excellent teamwork and cooperation;

Excellent oral and written communication skills;

Excellent leadership ability;

Excellent decision-making skills;

Excellent problem-solving skills;
