My whole life, I have been referred to as different. I grew up in a small community with very little diversity. My race did not match others around me. Physically I looked different. My heritage was different. My ideologies were different. I grew up feeling like
I never fit in. I grew up not knowing that others like me were out there. For most of my life, I had felt alone. I am half European and half Filipino. I never fit in with either,
divided between each culture. As an artist, I can offer a different perspective on art by using my plethora of knowledge of multiple cultures to help expose unseen markets and give them a voice and a platform for recognition. My goal is to work within sports branding, attempting to develop a more gender-inclusive environment.
I want to advocate for more proportional representation and recognition within our western culture.
Much of my work comes from my own identity or, particularly, suppression of individuality. I know I’m not alone in this feeling of not fitting in. I believe everyone at some point has felt this. I try to play on that feeling in my works.
As a Transgender woman, the lack of exposure to other trans-women through media had negatively impacted my identity. Now I can change that. I can break down the walls of social stigmas about gender and sexuality along with race.
Through my work, I conscientiously choose to include non-mainstream cultures, identities, and sexual orientations. My choices to incorporate the unincluded are all made to expose the realities in life that we are all different, and having those differences is a good thing.
Our differences make us special and unique, and that should be celebrated
