Alleben Purugganan is a Filipino-Canadian artist and educator who teaches and creates on the traditional and treaty territory of the Mississaugas and Chippewas of the Anishinabeg, known today as the Williams Treaties First Nations, and colonially known as Courtice, Ontario.
Alleben is an accomplished educator with five years of invaluable experience in the field of education. Additionally, as a versatile multi-hyphenate, Alleben pursued studies at the Ontario College of Art and Design University and amassed over 15 years of professional creative expertise.
In her latest teaching role at Globe Cambridge High School - a renowned international private academy. Alleben played a vital role in a new school opening while designing and delivering Ontario Curriculum-aligned courses. Alleben specializes in teaching various disciplines, including Visual Arts, Media Arts, English, Social Sciences and Humanities, and History.
Her contributions to the art department have greatly benefited the students, resulting in creative achievement scholarships at prestigious universities such as the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Rhode Island School of Design, California School of the Arts, University of California Berkeley and Irvine, and many more.
With over 10 years of experience as a community-based arts educator, Alleben actively engages with non-profit organizations in the Filipino-Canadian community. Alleben has successfully developed theatre productions; coordinated a women's studies courses, and organized and directed arts-based programs while speaking at national conferences across Canada. Alleben is a published author and her personal artwork has been exhibited at revered venues such as, Scotiabank's Nuit Blanche, The Centre for Social Innovation, JEH MacDonald House, and The Royal Ontario Museum.
In addition to her creative pursuits, Alleben is currently pursuing further education in computer science, business and entrepreneurial studies, project management, digital marketing, and e-commerce specialization.
Alleben is eager to explore new avenues of professional and creative growth in learning and development while honing her skills in business, design and technology. In her current role as Director of Operations for Newtco (newtcocontracting.ca), Alleben is aiming to refine her business, design and project management skills.
