With over 20 years of progressive experience in the construction and transportation infrastructure industry, I have developed extensive knowledge in the inspection, maintenance, and management of highway and municipal road projects throughout Ontario. My experience spans both private and public sector projects, including commercial developments, provincial highways, municipal roadways, and winter maintenance contracts. Beginning my career as a labourer, I progressed through roles including layout and grades technician, foreman, and management, allowing me to gain comprehensive field and administrative experience across all phases of construction operations.
Maintenance Coordinator at Ministry of Transportation (2022-01 – Present)
Overseeing the maintenance contract on various major highways. Ensuring the contract is being followed to specification, and safety to general public is in place. Spring and summer months ensuring clean up and general maintenance is completed accordingly to schedule as well as new projects.
With new projects building a scope of work and budget, as well as inspecting the work once the project has begun. Winter overseeing all winter operations such as plowing, maintaining safe roads. Also dealing with public complaints.
Survey layout / Junior Foreman at Fowler Construction (2018-01 – 2022-12)
Worked on various job sites from private, residential, and commercial, to MTO highways and municipal roads. Provided full site layout such as offset stakes and cross heads, shooting grades for culverts, detours, and new roads.
Trimble using Access and SPS programs on GPS as well as total stations. Other duties included grade work with optical or laser level, going off control points or creating as-builds. Kept organized and detailed notes, TOPO files, as well as daily diaries.
As Junior foreman, assisted the supervisor with all tasks involved with running a job site, from organizing and scheduling trucks and deliveries, to overseeing a crew and ensuring all work was done to plan and standards. Looked after the setup of work projects, such as safety checklist and safety talks, as well as needed lane closures.
Patroller at Fowler Construction (2019-01 – Present)
Winter patroller for Fowler Constructions CDMC contract with the MTO. Working out of the Emsdale yard in the winter months being responsible for overseeing 8 trucks and 16 drivers. Keeping detailed diaries, daily sand and salt totals, safety talks, incident reports, winter operations records, and all other paperwork.
Responding to changing weather and ensuring safe road conditions in a timely manner. Responsible for responding to emergency calls, keeping detailed notes, and providing up to date communication to the MTO. During daily road patrols keeping track of any deficiencies found from signs and damages to potholes and repairing them or calling in contractors to complete the work.
Contract Service Inspector at Ministry of Transportation (2021-01 – 2021-12)
Worked for the MTO as a contract service inspector out of the New Liskeard office. Looked after 10 municipalities, all part of the local road's boards. Completed yearly budgets and road inspection reports all on spreadsheet and excel.
Organized, set up, and oversaw all work projects on the roads while keeping in communication with the chair boards. Responsible for emergency call outs ensuring public safety and quick restoration times. As well as looking after winter call outs, monitoring the weather and calling out plows and graders when needed.
Labourer / Grades man at Sarginson Construction (2006-01 – 2018-12)
Started as a laborer within the company gaining knowledge and experience to work my way up. Learned the basis of construction principles involved with water and sewer work, mainly on MTO highway. Moved up to a Grades man; setting out structure and pipe locations, as well as figuring out the elevations, assisting with lane closures, and provided daily safety talks.
