I am an 2022 graduate from the UofA and currently taking a masters of Special Education and Educational Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan. Through my education and career, I have had the opportunity to work with students in grades pre-K-9. Prior to attending the U of A, I was privileged to spend three weeks in Guatemala working in a school. I believe all children can be successful learners and I love engaging each child in their unique learning styles.
Currently, I am working in a special education classroom with students ages 6-13, all of whom are living in a specialized group care treatment home. Through my work, I have the opportunity to work with children with, but not limited to, FASD, ODD, autism, ADHD, PTSD, language delays, learning disabilities and cognitive delays. Specializing in English, Social Studies, Math, Health and Gym; all lessons are modified and adapted to meet the specialized programs of each child.
Working in this environment has shaped classroom management skills and de-escalation strategies.
I am a highly innovative and resourceful educational professional; who quickly identifies and resolves challenges. I work well both independently and in a team atmosphere. Within my degree I have completed an introduction to American Sign Language course, therefore, conversing with children who communicate primarily through ASL is possible. Personally, I believe that every child should have the opportunity to learn in the format, language and setting that suits their needs best.
