Gabriel Olivotto

I am a third year software engineering student at Western University with a passion for software development looking to gain experience through a co-op/internship in various computer software and hardware fields.

I worked at Langtree Controls Ltd as an engineering intern in summer 2022. During my time there I was assigned tasks that would typically be given to their junior engineers and was able to learn quickly and reliably complete every task I was assigned.

These tasks included: Preparing construction packages, reviewing graphic configurations of Yokogawa process control systems, and creating proof test documents based on wiring drawings, client input, SRS, P&ID’s, and logic programmed in various controllers

I enrolled at Western University with an admission scholarship and completed my first year in the general engineering program with an 87% overall average. During my first year I studied a variety of engineering topics such as calculus, physics, chemistry, programming in Java, circuits and also completed various team projects using engineering design fundamentals. I completed my second year in the software engineering specialization with 92% overall average and a 100% final grade in my Data Structures and Algorithms course.

During my second year I completed various projects like creating a small tic-tac-toe game and dynamically reading various files/databases to extract data using Javascript and HTML. I also worked on team projects developing software using Unity and JavaFX for graphics in conjunction with Git for version control. Currently I am completing my third year taking courses related to software design/project management, requirement analysis, networking, web technologies, and database design.

This year I worked on a lot of larger scale projects including the creation of a full stack web application for organizing music using React, Express, Node.js, and MySQL. I also worked as part of a small team to create a mock shipping company system for our database design class optimizing our database design to Boyce-Codd Normal Form as well as creating a front-end for manipulating the data. I also completed various other small projects to build good fundamentals such as a SMTP mail client using python for my networking class and a Pokedex using plain javascript.
