Gaurav Bhagchandani

I'm an international student from India and joined the Big Data specialization of the MPCS program at SFU this Fall. I have 3 years of professional experience working with JavaScript and a basic knowledge of networking concepts from my undergraduate course. I also have a decent amount of experience working with Python.

My experience comes from my work at a startup called Pykih in India as a Full Stack Developer. I worked on the front-end, back-end as well as the database side of the product. Most of the front-end was coded in native JavaScript. The backend was based on PHP with MySQL for the database. Also, having worked at a startup for 3 years, I have experience wearing multiple hats, and working in a fast-paced development environment.

I am an avid coder, and have even started spending some time contributing to open source repositories on GitHub in the past months, the most notable one being VSCode. Since starting my course, I have been gaining familiarity with Python and I feel I am at a level where I can confidently code using it. I solved Advent of Code 2022 using pure Python to get a good hang of the language.

• Developed the codebase and architecture for the core product in native JavaScript, currently used by 11 clients

• Created a Python script for clustering in collaboration with the Tableau Foundation and an NGO called Operation Asha within a strict 1 month deadline
• Designed and programmed a decision support system and dashboard creation library in React used by the CEEW and 6 other clients
• Lead a team of 5 interns by assigning tasks and supporting them with code review
