Instrument Specialist
Toronto Research Chemicals - 20 Martin Ross Ave, North York, ON M3J 2K8 2022 – Current
- Ran the lab I was given and ensured ISO 17025 was upheld when instruments were run.
- Became proficient in using all instruments in my lab at Richmond Hill (ICP-MS, GC-MS, LC-MS) on top of the instruments I already knew MS, EA, IC, NMR, HPLC, GC, IR, and Karl Fisher.
- Made many SOPs and guidelines on how to run the instruments and analyze specific compounds.
- Did extensive method development on MS, GC-MS, LC-MS and HPLC instruments to the point where I can create new working methods for instruments fresh from the factory with no methods on them.
- Gained extensive troubleshooting skills from running analytical instruments for several years, I’ve taken some of these instruments half apart cleaned them, reassembled and had them up and running in a short time.
Analytical Chemist 2019 – 2022
- Analyzed several chemical compounds a day using analysis such as (MS, NMR, EA, and HPLC/GC) to determine if the chemical compounds identity is correct, and what the purity of the compound is so a C of A can be made and the chemicals can be sold.
- Less expensive chemicals were more thoroughly analyzed. (ex. Specific Rotation for chiral carbons, IC for compounds that contained ions, IR for compounds that had CN bonds, and KF for water content.)
- Ran GC, HPLC, NMR and MS for analysis on intermediates as well as final products.
- Documented the results of all the tests that were performed following ISO 17025 and ISO 9001.
- Volunteered to act as group leader for the afternoon shift dealing with leading huddles and any serious problems that would arise. (ex. Chemical spills)
Inorganic Lab Technician (Apex Life Science Agency Contract) 2017 – 2018
York Durham Regional Environmental Lab - 901 McKay Rd, Pickering, ON
- Trained to be proficient in a multitude of wet chemistry techniques.
- Analyzed water samples daily to measure chemical oxygen demand, sulphide, chlorine, and turbidity.
- Prepared samples for analysis using SKALAR continuous flow analysis; allowing for hundreds of water samples to be analyzed every couple days for TKN and TP from all over the Durham and York region.
- Trained inorganic group leader in the majority of inorganic lab techniques until they were proficient.
- Analyzed physical evidence for court trials on rare occasion requiring a higher level quality and integrity to ensure evidence can hold up in court.
