Chemical Technology graduate, trained in advanced analytical skills with experience in the laboratory, looking forward to applying my knowledge in the industry.
I’m a Chemical technology graduate from NAIT. I saw your job posting for the position of “Chemical Technologist" . This position caught my eye because I love working in a laboratory setting, analysis is one aspect of chemistry that always excites me due to the unlimited possibilities it opens up.
I believe that this position would help me get a head start in my career. Being in a team excites me and I love to take up new challenges and learn from my mistakes. During my studies at NAIT, I studied a course specific to the Oil and Gas chemistry where I studied about the compositions for different fuels, and how to test for the quality of different oils, greases, and asphalt to make sure that they meet the market standards using various ASTM methods.
I performed tests like Aniline Point, Reid Vapor Pressure, Dean Stark Extraction, Flash point, Viscosity (Kinematic and Dynamic) on various fuel, lubricating oil and bitumen samples. Apart from this, I used control charts that helped me understand how to access the validity of the methods used. I have worked with a lot of instruments including but not limited to GC, IC, HPLC AAS, GFAAS, ICP-MS and ICP-OES. for testing various compounds like ethanol, methane, and even atmospheric air.
I have experienced how different parameters effect the life of the instrument and the experimental analysis along with the interferences caused by matrix and the instrument design. Furthermore, I have learned how to compile the results in a customer friendly format for reporting them to the respected authorities. I
During my studies at NAIT, I have become proficiently skilled in Quantitative and Qualitative analyses. I can use chromatographic instruments such as a Gas chromatograph equipped with different detectors where I had experience in analyzing different samples ranging from gasoline samples, organic compounds, and organic vapors using the headspace sampling method. I have also experience working with GC-MS analyzing PAHs.
Moreover, I also have worked with Liquid Chromatographs, where I analyzed pharmaceutical drugs and beverage products for organic compounds. I am equipped with using other chromatographic instruments such as FPLC, IC, NMR KF Titrometer and LC-MS but not limited to them.
I am used to performing ASTM methods on different Oil, Bitumen, asphalt, and petroleum products for their boiling points by simple and simulated distillation methods, Flashpoints, kinematic viscosity, water content, cloud point, pour point, aniline point, freezing point, and color determination and comparing them to standards set by the Industry or Canadian government. In addition, I can operate spectroscopic instruments such as GFAAS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, Flame Atomic Absorption spectrophotometers, UV-VIS spectrophotometers, and IR spectrophotometers. Moreover, I am competent in performing Conductometric and Coulometric Karl Fisher titrations.
I can analyze environmental samples of soil, air, and water for trace metals, benzene-based compounds, and ion presence. Moreover, I have experience analyzing fish samples for trace amounts of mercury. I have also done food testing for moisture, ash, Iron, and macronutrient content. Furthermore, I can perform enzyme essays on different enzymes to find enzyme kinetics. I have also performed isolation and purification of protein.
