I am writing today to express my interest in a 4-month Software Engineer Co-op position with your company. I am currently in my second year of the Computer Engineering Software Option at the University of Alberta, and I discovered this promising opportunity through the University Co-op Office. I am available starting in May 2023. Please accept this letter, and the attached resume and transcript as my formal application for the position.
A position with a multinational, company like Huawei, who aims at creating a fully connected, intelligent world, is exactly the type of co-op placement I am searching for due to the learning and mentorship opportunities available. What intrigues me most is the chance to work on the leading edge of 5G technology research. I would like to express my gratitude to Huawei for offering these co-op opportunities, thereby making a generous investment in the development of future engineers.
Year 2 engineering students like myself inherently bring limited skill sets and experience to the industry. However, I believe that I am a candidate who will be able to quickly provide a return on this investment due to my proven ability to learn and demonstrate initiative. After graduating with the distinction as top student at my high school, I have continued to excel in my studies, maintaining a 4.0 GPA and being invited to the Golden Key Honor Society for academic excellence.
As a member of various teams, including basketball, school band, and part-time jobs, I have consistently risen to a role of leadership within those groups as a result of my contributions and work ethic.
In addition to the technical skills listed on my resume, I am also familiar with the use of makefiles, virtual machines for Linux, abiding by style guidelines, and various other programming best-practices for writing modular and readable code. Furthermore, I have developed a knowledge of the software development life cycle and implemented its basic stages in general engineering classes, and discussed software-specific techniques, such as agile and waterfall development. As a personal programming project, I have been using my skills in python to create a program for analyzing and tabulating daily NBA data for a fantasy basketball league.
