I am Janice Cheng, a first-year Biomedical engineering co-op student at the University of Guelph. I choose Engineering because it is a way to help others through problem-solving. Specifically biomedical because the medical field interests me, and I hope to pursue medicine after my engineering degree.
Through my engineering degree thus far, I have improved my time management and collaboration skills, and I hope to develop those skills further. I hope to gain more problem-solving skills pertaining to Biomedical Engineering through future courses and industry opportunities.
I have volunteered in my community for over 300+ hours throughout high school. I've worked with kids at camps and ran many events at my high school, including Relay For Life. With that experience, I planned the event's entertainment, found sponsors, advertised, and ran the social media account. The event was successful and raised over 100,000 dollars for the Canadian Cancer Society. I worked at Braeside camp, creating solid relationships with my co-workers and community and at Metro for 2+ years, building my customer service and communications skills. I continue to look for leadership opportunities and strengthen my skills.
