(2015-09 - 2022-01)
Transitioned to shore-based Project Engineering Management and HSSE compliance role at NLNG, providing mechanical engineering support and regulatory compliance oversight across LNG terminal, jetty, and marine loading infrastructure applying the same Class and regulatory knowledge developed at sea to a complex onshore LNG production environment. Provided technical engineering support for facility modifications and project execution across LNG terminal and marine loading arm systems reviewing designs, interpreting technical standards, and coordinating contractor execution.
- Provided overall project management and leadership for large LNG facility construction and modification from planning, preconstruction, construction, commissioning and close out.
- Managed project scope development, budget, schedule, cost controls and progress reporting to management.
- Coordinated engineering procurement, construction and stakeholder engagement through project lifecycle.
- Conducted engineering and compliance audits against ISM, ISPS, ISO 14001, and OHS regulatory frameworks identifying non-conformances, preparing written technical findings, and managing corrective action closure.
- Prepared and delivered technical reports, engineering deliverables, and compliance documentation to senior leadership and project governance teams developing proficiency in formal technical writing and client-facing correspondence.
- Facilitated HAZID and JSA risk assessments for facility modifications and marine operations, contributing engineering analysis and RAM classifications to support risk-based decision-making.
- Led incident investigations and root cause analyses preparing formal written responses documenting findings, causal factors, and corrective actions for regulatory and governance reporting.
- Managed subcontractors and vendors to ensure safety and schedules are met weekly and monthly.
- Maintained liaison with internal engineering specialists, operations teams, contractors, and external regulatory bodies coordinating cross-functional technical activities across a major LNG production and export facility.
- Ensured safety was held high by maintaining a goal zero policy for all projects handled. No one gets injured.
Gas Engineer (Senior Engineering Officer - LNG Cargo and Machinery) - NLNG Ship Management Limited (NSML) - LNG Carrier Fleet, Nigeria
(2005 - 2019)
Progressed through a structured seagoing engineering career across a fleet of LNG carriers operated by NLNG Ship Management Limited, advancing from Cadet through 4th Engineer, 3rd Engineer, and ultimately to Gas Engineer the senior engineering officer responsible for all LNG cargo systems, boil-off gas management, machinery plant operations, and regulatory compliance aboard LNG vessels. Held full accountability for the safe, compliant operation of high-consequence marine engineering systems under ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC, and Classification Society Rules.
- Held full operational responsibility for LNG cargo systems including cargo pumps, compressors, vaporisers, reliquefication plant, boil-off gas (BOG) management systems, and inert gas systems the exact systems subject to ABS Class Rules and survey requirements for LNG carriers.
- Operated and maintained the full machinery plant including steam turbine propulsion systems, high-pressure boilers, dual-fuel LNG main engines, diesel generators, heat exchangers, condensers, centrifugal and submersible pumps, valves, and piping systems with direct knowledge of the technical standards, tolerances, and failure modes that Class surveyors assess.
- Applied ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, and MLC requirements in daily operations interpreting and implementing Rules and Regulations in real engineering situations, including hazardous area management, safety equipment compliance, pollution prevention, and crew certification requirements.
- Participated in Classification Society surveys (annual, intermediate, special/drydock) and Port State Control (PSC) inspections managing technical findings, coordinating corrective actions, preparing documentation, and interfacing with surveyors and flag state representatives.
