Karis Bowman

I am a passionate and creative student majoring in drawing and painting at OCAD university. I get along well with others and enjoy using my creativity to problem solve in the work environment.

I have been involved in a Christian summer camp for many years, initially as a participant then as a volunteer (2019 to present). For three weeks of the summer, my role included taking care of a particular group of 6 to 10 children ranging in ages from 8 to 15; the groups changed each week within my counselor period. Along with another staff member, I was responsible for leading and providing for my cabin group through a scheduled day at overnight camp.

My job was to guide children through their morning routine of waking up and going to breakfast, assisting them throughout the daily games and chapel times, and settling them down for bedtime. In addition to leading my group, I organized day activities like outdoor games (capture the flag, relay races), bible lessons, and performing improv skits for the entire camp of 30 children. For the remainder of the summer, I worked in the kitchen cleaning and setting tables, serving meals at the buffet station, preparing food like chopping vegetables and peeling potatoes, and washing dishes as well as other miscellaneous cleaning duties.

In addition to this, I have volunteer at my church, leading the worship team, assisting with the technical production of the service (sound board, camera operator), working with a team to put on youth events, decorating team, occasional cleaning, and other jobs around the church.

In addition to these volunteer positions, I have worked as a babysitter, as well as a commissioned artist.

I am a high school graduate from Elmira District Secondary School. I am currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program at OCAD university.
