I started my journey working at CanSkate, where I learned how to be patient, encouraging, and supportive while teaching young skaters new skills. While working at Danceability, I faced one of the most difficult times in my life grieving the loss of my brother. Balancing my responsibilities at work while processing that loss strengthened my resilience and emotional awareness.
I later continued building my customer service experience at Firehouse Subs, where I developed the ability to think quickly, stay organized in fast-paced situations, and work effectively within a team. Now, as a nursing student at Humber, I carry all of those experiences with me. Navigating personal loss while continuing to show up professionally has shaped me into someone with strong people skills, empathy, and the ability to problem solve under pressure.
These are qualities that I bring into both my studies and future job opportunities.
Through my experience working at CanSkate, Danceability, and Firehouse Subs, I developed strong people skills, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to learn quickly in new environments. Working closely with children and families at CanSkate and Danceability taught me how to communicate clearly, be patient, and adapt my approach to different personalities and needs. In fast-paced settings like Firehouse Subs, I learned how to think on my feet, resolve issues efficiently, and stay calm under pressure.
Each role required me to pick up new skills quickly and work effectively as part of a team. These experiences helped me build patience, confidence, and the ability to connect with others, qualities that continue to support me in both my academic journey and professional growth.
Being a nursing student at Humber has helped me strengthen my people skills, problem-solving abilities, empathy, and patience in meaningful ways. Through clinical placements, group work, and hands-on learning, I’ve learned how to communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and healthcare teams. Nursing school constantly challenges me to think critically, assess situations carefully, and make safe, informed decisions under pressure.
It has also deepened my empathy, as I’ve been exposed to individuals from diverse backgrounds facing complex health challenges. Supporting patients through vulnerable moments has taught me the importance of patience, understanding, and active listening, these components will continue to shape me into a caring and competent future nurse.
