In completing a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Queen’s University, I had the opportunity to study both physical and societal aspects of health, supplementing my research of bodily functions with a dialogue of health equity and social justice needs. This experience gave me an understanding of health on a micro level that I now seek to expand into a broader and global scale.
Now, having completed my MMASc in Global Health Systems at Western University, I hope to be able to advocate for the rights and accessibility of healthcare for underserved communities. I am eager to participate in the conversation in fighting social injustice not only here in Canada, but also around the world.
Throughout my undergraduate and graduate education, I have been involved in numerous local and international healthcare-related projects and initiatives including, but not limited to, working as part of an executive team to organize Canada's largest student-run healthcare conference as well as working as a Community Health Project Lead to help improve access to healthcare for vulnerable populations in Uganda. In carrying out these responsibilities, I also gained an understanding of submission guidelines and processes for scientific articles, and became knowledgeable in methods for research design, implementation, and analysis. I work effectively not only as a member of a team, but also independently when leading others and delegating tasks to ensure project success.
