COVID-19 State Rapid Response Coordination at Ogun State Ministry of Health (2020-02 – 2023-02)

Worked within the case management pillar of the State Rapid Response Team, coordinating with isolation centres to collate patient case records and daily case data for submission to the national response team.

Immunization & SIA Program Lead, Obafemi Owode LGA at World Health Organization / Ogun State (2020-02 – 2023-02)

Technical lead with operational oversight of routine immunization and SIA across the LGA. Obafemi Owode is one of the largest LGAs in Ogun State by area (1,410 km2, 1,204 communities, 12 wards). Nigeria was certified free of wild poliovirus in August 2020 after sustained Supplemental Immunization Activities (SIA) and surveillance.

• Directed immunization campaigns (measles, nOPV2, mass Vitamin A, deworming) across one of Ogun State's largest LGAs, coordinating a field workforce of about 247 health workers including vaccinators, supervisors, and recorders.
• Deployed and managed the CommCare mobile platform to capture patient and program data in real time and process frontline worker payments, replacing paper based reporting and shortening payment and reporting cycles.
• Tracked coverage KPIs against targets, flagged gaps from field data, and ran mid course corrections that raised immunization coverage from 65% to 90% across the LGA.
• Coordinated micro planning, cold chain logistics, and supportive supervision with LGA teams and WHO officers to keep campaigns on schedule and within protocol.
• Sustained immunization coverage at 90% through the period Nigeria secured wild poliovirus free certification (Aug 2020).

Principal Investigator, WHO Multi Country Oxygen Study (O2CoV2) at World Health Organization (2020-03 – 2023-10)

Principal Investigator for the Nigeria site, reporting to the international study steering committee. Owned patient enrollment, clinical data collection, and record level accuracy for the site. Managed a project budget of $27 million CAD.

WHO ran a 30 country observational study on oxygen requirements and respiratory support for COVID-19 patients in low and middle income countries. The program drew more than 175 expressions of interest, from which 40 principal investigators across 30 countries were selected. Findings were published in BMJ Open (2023) and The Lancet Global Health (2026).

• Led the local study end to end as Principal Investigator within a 30 country WHO research program, owning site set up, ethics and protocol compliance, timelines, and reporting to the international steering committee.
• Oversaw clinical data collection and patient record accuracy for 230 enrolled patients, using the EPIC EMR alongside REDCap, working with a 16 person site team across the isolation centre, critical care, and anaesthesia teams at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Ijebu Ode.
• Built consensus with Ministry of Health officials and clinicians through structured consultations, accelerating local protocol approval and clinical data validation.
• Delivered site reports and implementation updates on patient enrollment and clinical data quality that fed into WHO governance outputs and two peer reviewed publications.
• Contributed country level clinical evidence to a global study that informed WHO guidance on emergency respiratory care and oxygen access; co credited in the published O2CoV2 investigator outputs.
