My journey toward becoming a Continuing Care Assistant began with one of the most difficult experiences of my life, caring for my son after he suffered multiple strokes. In that moment, everything changed. Suddenly, I was not just a parent, but a caregiver, and advocate, I had to learn quickly how to support him physically, emotionally, and medically.
I discovered a strength I didn’t know I had. I learned how to assist with mobility, manage medications, communicate with healthcare professionals, and most importantly, how to be present for someone who needed me.
Becoming a Continuing Care Assistant felt like a natural extension of that experience. I wanted to take the empathy, patience, and hands-on skills I developed and use them to help others facing similar challenges. I understand firsthand how important compassionate care is, not just for the person receiving it, but for their entire support system. I know what it means to feel overwhelmed, and I know how meaningful it is to have someone there who genuinely cares.
This isn’t just a career choice for me, it’s coming from love, experience, and a desire to make a difference. I want to be that reassuring presence for others, just as I was for my son.
