A compassionate and caring mental health professional with almost eighteen years of experience of working within the health and social care sector in the UK. I spent ten years working as a nursing assistant / mental health support worker, before qualifying as a registered mental health nurse for which I still hold a UK based nursing license. My expertise lay within the area of severe mental illness, with much of my nursing career working in the field of severe mental illness such as psychosis, bipolar disorder, and co-morbid substance misuse.
Additionally, I do hold additional qualifications in cognitive behavioural therapy which allows me to blend both my nursing and psychotherapy skills to promote recovery through a person-centered approach. I am both a compassionate and experienced registered mental health nurse in the UK, although currently seeking a mental health support worker position here in Canada. With this I bring strong experience in therapeutic engagement, crisis intervention, risk management and safety planning, and person centered care after several years of supporting individuals with severe mental illness.
I am genuinely motivated to work within a support worker role, providing consistent and thorough assistance whilst developing knowledge and understanding of the Canadian mental health system, services, and standards of practice. Although I do eventually plan to pursue my BC nursing license in the future, my current priority is to gain invaluable knowledge and experience of the Canadian mental health system. Additionally, increasing my awareness and understanding of third party organisations that support the psychosocial concept of mental health recovery would be essential, alongside building positive relationships with both service users and colleagues, and working within multidisciplinary teams.
