A recent graduate from the University of Windsor.
I am a recent graduate from the University of Windsor’s bachelors of Forensic Science with Biology specialization.
Over the past four years of my academic career, I have gained extensive knowledge of various aspects of both forensic science, evidence collection and maintenance. This knowledge includes but is not limited to, crime scene investigative techniques, with hands-on experience with evidence/crime scene analysis, bullet/casing/striation analysis, microscopic hair and fibre analysis, as well as theoretical knowledge in gel electrophoresis, spectrometry and chromatography. It also includes knowledge from coursework in serology & DNA applications, molecular biology, genetics, forensic chemistry, biomolecules, human physiology, toxins & pathology.
I also took law-based courses that gave me crucial knowledge of the Canadian court system.
During my clinical placement, I shadowed the Pathologist and the autopsy assistants in the morgue. Afterwards, I would shadow the pathologist assistants (PAs) as they completed gross dissections. Some of the work I completed during my clinical was sorting and checking off what samples the lab received from the other two hospital campuses, working in histology, and melting the wax off of the cassettes for the rotary microtome, and taking notes on measurement and weight of individuals and organs during the autopsies.
I’ve witnessed over 40 autopsies during the summer, with cases ranging from drug overdoses, suicides, heart, and renal failures, and still births. This clinical has given me crucial skills that can aid my future endeavors.
