About

Safety-focused Mine Haul Truck Operator with extensive open-pit mining experience, including long-term work with Elk Valley Resources (EVR) and haul-truck work with Mackay Contracting in Sparwood, BC. Experienced with large-capacity haul trucks (reported range: 180–400 tons, including CAT equipment), pre-operational inspections, mine-road awareness, radio communication, load-haul-dump cycles, hazard reporting, and operating in changing weather and ground conditions. Committed to following site procedures, traffic-management plans, critical controls, and stop-work expectations.

Experience

Haul Truck Operator - MACKAY CONTRACTING - Sparwood, British Columbia

(2024 - 2026)

  • Operate haul trucks in an active mine-site environment, following site-specific procedures, dispatch instructions, and traffic-management requirements.
  • Complete pre-operational and walk-around inspections; check tires, lights, mirrors, cameras, access points, fluid leaks, alarms, and visible damage as applicable to the assigned unit.
  • Report defects, unsafe conditions, equipment warnings, and abnormal operating behaviour promptly; do not operate equipment when a safety-critical defect requires it to be parked.
  • Maintain radio contact with dispatch, loading units, other haul trucks, and supervisors; use clear, concise calls and confirm instructions when communication is unclear.
  • Manage separation from light vehicles and other equipment; remain alert to blind spots, changing right-of-way, intersections, reversing movements, and restricted visibility.
  • Assess haul-road conditions including loose material, potholes, ruts, dust, standing water, ice, snow, grades, curves, berms, and edge conditions; adjust speed and report hazards.
  • Use controlled speed, safe following distance, and smooth braking/steering appropriate to load, grade, traction, visibility, and road conditions.
  • Approach loading and dumping areas cautiously; follow spotter and loading-equipment instructions, confirm the area is clear, and remain alert to unstable ground, overhead hazards, and other mobile equipment.
  • Apply fatigue-management practices on extended shifts, maintain situational awareness, and communicate when conditions or fitness for duty may affect safe operation.
  • Follow site PPE, seat-belt, housekeeping, access/egress, emergency-response, and incident/near-miss reporting requirements.

Mine Haul Truck Operator - ELK VALLEY RESOURCES (EVR) - Elkford, British Columbia

(2009 - 2024)

  • Operated large-capacity haul trucks in open-pit mining operations, including CAT equipment; original resume records experience with trucks in the 180–400-ton range.
  • Performed pre-shift and post-shift visual checks, identified equipment concerns, and communicated defects for maintenance follow-up.
  • Transported material between loading, haul-road, and dump destinations while following assigned routes, speed limits, right-of-way rules, and dispatch directions.
  • Maintained awareness of shovel and loader swing radius, truck positioning, berms, dump edges, stockpiles, ground stability, and changing traffic patterns.
  • Used two-way radio communication to coordinate movements, announce intentions, receive instructions, and report road hazards or unsafe conditions.
  • Adapted driving to rain, fog, snow, freezing temperatures, dust, reduced visibility, uneven surfaces, and changing traction; reported conditions that could affect safe travel.
  • Monitored instruments and equipment response for abnormal temperatures, pressures, warning lights, braking or steering concerns, and other potential defects; followed site reporting and shutdown procedures.
  • Maintained safe separation from other mobile equipment and light vehicles, watched for pedestrians in designated areas, and avoided entering blind spots or restricted zones.
  • Followed mine-site procedures for loading, hauling, dumping, parking, securing equipment, emergency response, PPE, and reporting incidents and near misses.
  • Worked with supervisors, dispatch, maintenance personnel, and loading-equipment operators to support safe, consistent production and shift handovers.
