Hello I am mechancial engineer grad
In my time at UBCO I have gained a large amount of experience in machine learning.
Dr. Dean Richert and Dr.
Al-Dabbagh to work on a Raspberry Pi that can communicate with a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The PLC controlled an assembly line that had workpieces which were constructed by the user. The PLC would control a conveyer belt which would activate and bring a tray which carries workpieces. At the assembly station the user would be instructed to create a phone, based on the instructions that a display screen would show. The assembly worker would have to pick out parts from several boxes and assemble the phone. Then they would place the final product on the plate which would carry the final product away. However, the PLC had no way of checking whether the constructed phone was correct. I was tasked with the job of creating a system where a Raspberry Pi, with a camera, would detect defects (if any) and then the Pi would communicate to the PLC to make adjustments. Via the use of machine learning models like and communication protocols such as TCP, IP and Sockets, I was able to successfully create that system. Not only could it detect the defects that the user made in real time, but it could communicate back and forth with the PLC to correct any defects on the workpiece.
Additionally, I have also released multiple projects such as OtterInventor. A job board website I created to help engineering students to find jobs near them. This was written in NextJS and backend in Postgres.
Additionally, the payment in this website is handled by stripe and authentication is handled by Supabase. All the styling is done in tailwind. This gave me the understanding of how to take a project from concept to completion.
Additionally, the biggest skill I believe I have is my ability to debug. My experience with OtterInventor and the PLC project has taught me the optimal way to debug code so that I am using my time efficiently.
My education was in Mechanical Engineering, however in my time in University I took many courses in Electrical Engineering and also self taught myself coding/computer science.
