## About the Role

As a Backend Software Developer, you will contribute to the design, development, testing, and maintenance of the Data Processing Platform (DPP) at CERN. The platform supports both offline and online analysis of accelerator and beam data and provides reliable, scalable backend services for the control, monitoring, and analysis of particle accelerators and equipment.

Working within the Data Processing team of the CERN Controls Software & Services group and following Scrum methodology, you will help evolve the platform architecture, develop production-ready integrations, and modernize existing services by migrating legacy systems to the DPP.

## Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend software for the Data Processing Platform.
• Build reliable and scalable backend services for accelerator and equipment data.
• Support both online and offline data analysis use cases.
• Contribute to the validation and evolution of the platform architecture.
• Develop and maintain production-ready software integrations.
• Contribute to the modernization of existing services.
• Migrate legacy systems and services to the Data Processing Platform.
• Collaborate with the Data Processing team using Scrum methodology.

## Required Qualifications

• University degree in a relevant field.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree as the highest educational qualification.
• Maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation by the application deadline.
• Strong interest in backend software development.
• Ability to contribute to software design, development, testing, and maintenance.
• Eligibility to apply under CERN's Member State or Associate Member State requirements.
• No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract.
• Candidates must not hold a PhD for this position.

## Preferred Qualifications

• Experience or knowledge of Java and/or Python backend development.
• Familiarity with scalable backend services and software integrations.

Eligibility criteria are particularly important for this position. Applicants must be nationals of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State.
