The team supports critical processes across aircraft handling, airside operations, passenger handling, and baggage sorting. It is also responsible for application operations and platforms supporting data integration and data management.

About the Role

Zurich Airport Ltd is seeking a Senior Database Engineer with a focus on Microsoft SQL Server to support comprehensive data management activities, from requirements engineering and technical consulting through optimization, operational reliability, and continuous development.

The role combines database engineering, platform operations, performance optimization, security, architecture, and application integration. You will also have the opportunity to support integration topics involving Kafka and IBM webMethods ESB.

Key Responsibilities

Database Engineering & Platform Operations

• Design, engineer, operate, and continuously improve central data platforms including MS SQL Server, MariaDB, and Oracle.
• Monitor database platforms and ensure reliable operation.
• Support comprehensive data management from requirements engineering through optimization and operational assurance.
• Maintain highly available database environments and contribute to their ongoing development.

Architecture & Technical Solutions

• Specify system architectures and software solutions.
• Define the technical resources required to implement and operate solutions.
• Provide technical guidance on database architecture, security, performance, and operational topics.

Project & Lifecycle Management

• Lead projects and technical development initiatives.
• Manage technical lifecycle projects and ensure successful implementation.
• Ensure projects meet requirements for quality, timelines, and budget.

Consulting & Collaboration

• Advise and support internal stakeholders on technical questions related to IT services.
• Provide guidance on architecture, security, performance, and operational matters.
• Support team development through an open, honest, and empathetic approach.
• Collaborate with external operational partners to maintain platform quality, security, and availability.

Integration & Operations

• Support application integration activities when required.
• Contribute to integration topics involving event streaming with Kafka and IBM webMethods ESB.
• Participate in on-call support for the organization's platforms.
• Help ensure high availability, security, and operational quality.

Required Qualifications

• Higher education qualification in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or equivalent further education (HF or higher).
• Strong expertise in designing, operating, and developing highly available MS SQL Server environments.
• Practical experience with SQL Server Always On configurations.
• Experience with database performance tuning.
• Experience with database security
