On behalf of a leading company in the field of medical technology and diagnostic solutions, we are looking for an experienced Infrastructure / DevOps Engineer to join a highly specialized Linux and hardware engineering organization. The team develops and operates a Debian-based Linux distribution along with the supporting infrastructure for complex medical devices and highly critical, regulated healthcare environments.
This role is key to building, operating, and evolving a robust, secure, and scalable infrastructure platform that supports development, testing, and production use cases. You will work closely with software, hardware, and platform engineering teams and play a significant role in ensuring stability, automation, and continuous improvement of the overall technical ecosystem.
The position is initially limited to 12 months with the possibility of extension. The workplace is Rotkreuz with a flexible hybrid model (approximately 50% onsite, flexible working hours).
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Build, operate, and evolve the infrastructure landscape, from hardware and physical networking to highly available on-premise cluster environments
- Select, procure, integrate, and commission hardware components for the infrastructure platform
- Contribute to Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test environments for medical devices
- Design, build, and maintain platform services such as build servers, CI runners, and artifact repositories
- Integrate external dependencies including compute, storage, networking, and tools such as GitLab, GitHub, Artifactory, and Slack
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code solutions for automated infrastructure management
- Build and operate monitoring, alerting, and inventory management systems
- Provide self-service platforms for developers and solution engineers, including access to HIL systems for debugging and testing
- Design and implement lifecycle management concepts for infrastructure and hardware components
- Define and execute backup, disaster recovery, and emergency strategies
- Operate and evolve cloud infrastructure and integrate hybrid cloud and on-premise environments
- Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub-based workflows)
- Collaborate closely with Software Engineering, Solution Architecture, Product Teams, and other technical stakeholders
Your Profile
- 8+ years of experience as an Infrastructure Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), or in a similar role
- University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related technical field
- Proven experience in designing, building, and operating complex infrastructure platforms, including production and user-facing systems
- Strong understanding of infrastructure architecture, system reliability, security, and operational excellence
- Experience working closely with Software Engineers, Solution Architects, and Product/Platform teams
- Ability to independently lead technical initiatives and drive infrastructure improvements
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience in complex, fast-paced technical environments
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); German is a plus
Nice to Have
- Experience with virtualization, container technologies (e.g., Kubernetes), and CI/CD systems
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Terraform)
- Experience in embedded systems, hardware-near engineering, or ARM-based platforms
- Experience building hardware/software integration and testing environments
- Experience in regulated environments (MedTech, Pharma, Life Sciences)
- Experience with hybrid cloud and on-premise architectures
- German language skills are a plus
