DevOps Engineer - WFH

About the Role A banking client in Zurich is looking for an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to help build and further develop a new virtualization platform.

You will work within a Linux and platform engineering environment focused on modern infrastructure, automation, and secure platform services. The role involves managing Linux-based servers, working with Kubernetes or OpenShift, developing Infrastructure as Code solutions, and improving CI/CD pipelines and orchestration processes.

You will also develop internal APIs, reusable automation services, and self-service capabilities that allow other teams to access infrastructure services securely and efficiently. Alongside platform development, you will contribute to operational stability, cybersecurity, and continuous improvement across the infrastructure environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the lifecycle of Linux-based servers and platform infrastructure, from provisioning and maintenance to decommissioning.

• Support the design, implementation, and ongoing development of a new virtualization platform.

• Operate, optimize, and continuously improve the platform environment to ensure reliability and maintainability.

• Automate server lifecycle processes, including provisioning, patching, configuration, and decommissioning.

• Develop reusable automation services, internal APIs, command-line tools, and platform components.

• Operate and enhance automation and orchestration technologies, including GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.

• Implement technical and organizational measures to reduce cybersecurity risks within the infrastructure environment.

• Design and implement secure APIs that enable self-service access to infrastructure services.

• Investigate and resolve incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement sustainable corrective measures.

• Improve automation, system hardening, interfaces, and operational processes to strengthen platform security and efficiency.

Required Qualifications

• Five to eight years of experience as a DevOps Engineer, Platform Engineer, Linux Engineer, or in a comparable technical role.

• Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes or OpenShift.

• Experience with Git, container technologies, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code.

• Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python or Go.

• Ability to develop clean, maintainable code for automation tools, interfaces, and platform services.

• Experience designing and implementing APIs, including REST or OpenAPI-based interfaces.

• Very good knowledge of Linux servers and platform environments.

• Understanding of cybersecurity requirements and secure practices in infrastructure and platform operations.

• Experience investigating incidents, performing root cause analysis, and implementing long-term solutions.

• A structured, independent, and solution-oriented approach to work.

• German language proficiency at C2 level.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of authentication, authorization, logging, and monitoring practices.

• Experience with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, SaltStack, Puppet, Chef, or similar frameworks.
