Senior Full Stack Developer

Client: Agency of the United Nations

Modality: OFFSITE; All work is to be performed remotely, unless specifically authorized by a supervisor.

Daily Rate: 250,00 EUR

Extension/Renewals: There is a possibility for assignment of additional capacity to other projects, as necessary. Renewals will be considered based on performance and funding.

Education Qualifications

• First-level university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent professional qualification.
• Expert knowledge in spoken and written English.
• MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
• MS SharePoint, MS Visio, MS Project

Knowledge

• Strong technical knowledge of Cloud Computing Platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS)
• Strong technical knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and in software development field
• Strong technical knowledge of API Design and Integration
• Knowledge of GraphQL, WebSockets, or real-time web app development.
• Strong technical knowledge of Microservices Architecture and Design Patterns
• Strong technical knowledge of Containerization and Orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
• Strong technical knowledge of Database Design
• Strong technical knowledge of DevOps Practices and CI/CD Pipelines
• Deep understanding of software integration and interoperability principles, patterns and practices.
• Understanding of privacy, confidentiality and security practices related to software development. (e.g., OWASP)
• Current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices

Skills

• Proficiency in a variety of programming languages and frameworks, such as C#, Java, Python, .NET, or JavaScript.
• Proficiency in backend technologies (e.g., .NET, Java, Node.js, Python/Django, Ruby on Rails, PHP).
• Proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript client-side frameworks (e.g., React, Angular) and client-side storage with synchronization capabilities
• Proficiency in RESTful API design, relational and NoSQL databases, and asynchronous programming.
• Proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL) and Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) such as SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and web storage solutions.
• Proficiency in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Extensible Markup Language (XML), JavaScript Object Notation (JSON).

• Hands-on technical experience with cloud development (Azure/AWS), including compute, storage, serverless and container (microservice) architectures, security, and federated identity and access management.
• Familiarity with Docker, containers, and deploying applications to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar).
• Hands-on technical experience with CI/CD pipelines and source control (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps)
• Familiarity with performance optimization and observability tools.
• Familiarity with AI/ML application architecture, LLM models and managed AI services and APIs (Azure OpenAI/AWS Bedrock)

Experience – Essentials

• A minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in designing, full stack building, implementing and integrating software solutions in response to specific business needs.
• Demonstrated experience in software development and Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
• Demonstrated experience with cloud development.
• Demonstrated experience with Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL and web services (REST/SOAP).
• Hands-on experience with modern frontend frameworks/libraries such as Angular, React, or React Native.
• Demonstrated experience with working in Agile, Waterfall and hybrid project environments.
• Demonstrated exposure in complex international contexts involving technical, cultural and political elements.
• Demonstrated experience with UN or other international or multinational organizations such as WHO.

Experience – Desirable

• Experience working with, contributing to or maintaining open-source projects.
• Demonstrated experience in the software acquisition, development and maintenance for the public health domain.
• Previous experience with development projects in/for WHO.

Key responsibilities:

• Environment management: maintaining a healthy and stable working environment across dev, staging and production, with clean promotion of changes between environments
• CI/CD pipeline: owning and managing the pipeline across the three WordPress environments, ensuring reliable and consistent deployments
• WordPress back-end: server configuration, plugin management, performance monitoring, security patching and general platform health
• Code quality: reviewing and maintaining code quality standards including version control discipline (Git) and documentation; establishing a testing practice for custom code including unit tests, which are currently not in place
• Collaboration: working effectively with the front-end vendor (Enabling Dimensions India) to integrate their work cleanly into the platform

While the primary focus of this role is back-end and infrastructure, the developer is expected to be comfortable implementing front-end changes and new features within WordPress. Major design decisions will be handled by our front-end vendor, but day-to-day feature implementation and template work should not require escalation
