We offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced Solution Engineer / Expert seeking a new challenge within an innovation-driven MedTech environment focused on developing the next generation of life-saving diagnostic solutions. For our client in Rotkreuz, we are currently looking for a Solution Engineer / Expert Linux Platform (80–100%) for a 12-month assignment starting as soon as possible (latest possible start date: 01 October 2026). This is an on-site/hybrid position with a workload of 80–100%.
Our client is a globally recognized healthcare and life sciences organization dedicated to advancing innovative medical technologies. Within the Enterprise Platforms & Infrastructure team, you will contribute to the development and evolution of a custom Debian-based Linux platform that serves as the foundation for Roche's next-generation medical instruments. Working alongside highly specialized software and hardware engineers, you will play a key role in building, optimizing, and securing the operating system that powers critical diagnostic devices.
As a Solution Engineer / Expert, you will take ownership of the Linux platform across the entire technology stack—from kernel customization and Debian package management to build automation, troubleshooting, and release engineering. Acting as the technical expert for complex system challenges, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary development teams to continuously improve platform performance, security, and reliability while ensuring the highest quality standards required in the MedTech industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the custom Debian-based Linux platform, including kernel customization, driver integration, Debian package creation, maintenance, and optimization.
- Design, maintain, and continuously improve the build, test, and release infrastructure to ensure reliable and reproducible software delivery.
- Serve as the technical expert for complex low-level Linux system issues by performing in-depth troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause analysis across software and hardware components.
- Consult and support internal development teams on the effective use and integration of the Roche Linux platform.
- Identify opportunities to improve system performance, security, automation, and development processes, proactively driving technical enhancements.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional software and hardware teams to ensure a stable, scalable, and secure operating system platform.
- Maintain high engineering standards through documentation, process optimization, and knowledge sharing within the team.
Your Profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- At least 10 years of hands-on Linux engineering experience, with deep knowledge across the Linux software stack.
- Extensive experience building, customizing, or maintaining Linux distributions, ideally Debian-based, using tools such as debootstrap, molior, or aptly.
- Proven expertise in Debian package creation, maintenance, dependency management, and packaging best practices.
- Strong scripting and automation skills using Python and Shell scripting.
- Solid understanding of operating system concepts, including process management, memory management, filesystems, software build systems (Make, CMake), testing, packaging, and release lifecycles.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently investigate and resolve complex technical issues.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Fluent English is mandatory; German is considered an advantage.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with systems programming using C or C++.
- Knowledge of embedded Linux systems, ARM platforms, hardware drivers, and low-level hardware/software integration.
- Experience with virtualization technologies (KVM), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Previous experience working in a regulated MedTech, healthcare, or life sciences environment.
